Israeli military officials believe that the recent collapse of the Assad regime – a regime primarily overthrown by Turkish-supported jihadist rebels, along with minor support from American-aligned rebel groups in Syria's south and northeast – has significantly weakened Iran's position in the Middle East.
The IDF claims that the fall of a key ally could prompt Tehran to accelerate its alleged nuclear program, thus making it necessary for the IAF to launch preemptive strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities. The IAF has reportedly increased its readiness and preparations for such operations, leveraging its recent air superiority over Syria to extend its reach to Iran.
